BSA Troops 40 & 140

Since 1959, St. Luke’s has sponsored Scouts BSA Troop 140.  In over 60 years, hundreds of Middleton area youth and adults have shared the values and mission of Scouting while experiencing the outdoors, learning new skills, bonding with their fellow scouts, demonstrating leadership and providing service to St. Luke’s and the Middleton community.

Something to be especially proud of is that over those years, over 180 of those boys attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

In 2019, Scouts BSA began registering girls in its program and St. Luke’s chartered Troop 40.  This troop allows young women to take advantage of all the same programs that the Boy Scouts of America has offered for over 100 years, including camping, service, advancement and an opportunity to work toward the rank of Eagle Scout. In Troop 40’s second year the troop has over 20 registered scouts and a committed group of trained adult leaders.

Each year Troops 140 & 40 provide a variety of opportunities for the scouts.  Troop meetings are held the first 3 Mondays of every month at St. Luke’s. At these meetings scouts work on rank advancement, plan for outings, work on new skills and interact with their patrol mates.

The troops also offer monthly weekend outings. Some of the outing’s activities are: canoeing the Wisconsin river and other rivers, backcountry hiking, winter camping, biking area trails, competing with other patrols, camping with other scout troops, geocaching, spelunking, climbing, swimming and just hanging out with their fellow scouts and having fun.  Each summer the scouts are given the opportunity to attend a Scouts BSA week-long summer camp and other adventures.

Older scouts can also participate in high adventure experiences that challenge them and hone their outdoor and leadership skills. Those opportunities include backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, sailing and scuba diving at Florida Sea Base, canoeing or winter camping in the Boundary Waters at Northern Tier, or rafting, zip lining and mountain biking at Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.

In addition to bonding with their patrol members, the scouts also participate in community service projects and do a good turn for others. Such as service to St. Luke’s and in the Middleton community.  Besides countless Eagle projects, the Troops have provided numerous hours of service work for organizations such as Badger Honor Flight, MOM’s, Adopt a Highway and many other local organizations.

Membership in Scouts BSA is open to youth ages 11-17 and both Troops welcome new members at any time. For more information about our troops and joining please contact:
