Welcome

Opening Hymn    “I Love to Tell the Story”    Hymn #661

Leader:     The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Cong:     And also with you.

Psalm 148

Leader:    Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights!

Cong:    Praise God, all his angels; praise God, all his host!

Leader:    Praise God, sun and moon; praise God, all you shining stars!

Cong:    Praise God, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!

Leader:    Let them praise the name of the Lord,  for God commanded and they were created.

Cong:    God established them forever and ever; God fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.

Prayer of the Day

Leader:  O Lord God, we gather this evening to recognize your power and presence in the lives of these young people.  Not only have you sustained them with your never-ending love, but you have been there in their times of joy as well as moments of sorrow.  You have wiped their tears, offered them direction and purpose, and bestowed on them the gift of your Holy and ever-present Spirit.  Grant, O God, to each of these graduates, the gift of knowing that they are loved by you so that they might go forth with confidence into the future.  Bless their families also as they give them the freedom to fully grow into that future.  And all God’s people said loudly…Amen!

First Reading: Romans 12:1-18

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, on the basis of God’s mercy, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable act of worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the encourager, in encouragement; the giver, in sincerity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.

et love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal; be ardent in spirit; serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; pursue hospitality to strangers.

less those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.  Live in harmony with one another; do not be arrogant, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

This is the word of the Lord...Thanks be to God!

Holy Gospel: John 13:33-35

Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
