Daily Inspiration - October 1

What else can go wrong?… What will go right!

It seems like this year, each day, week, and month brings new challenges. We cannot escape the news with TVs and smart phones. It is wearing on me and I think about how do we get out of where we are today? Everything seems too big and too deeply rooted in our society and is overwhelming.

I often reflect growing up as a preacher’s kid - there are two types and I was not heading down the good road. Then after losing my father at 13, in that moment I decided I was going to change course with better grades, going to college, and earning a master’s degree. There were many challenges and missteps along the way, but those goals were always guiding me.

Recently I attended a virtual webinar and heard the former Fed Chair, Dr. Ben Bernanke talk about the state of the economy and markets. At the end, I was encouraged by how he concluded with stating that the American fabric and economy is based on a positive outlook and seeking ways to move forward. We coordinated and mobilized a great force to get to the moon, we have incredible ingenuity creating new ways of doing things, and an ever-optimistic view looking forward.

On another webinar, I heard Andre Agassi talk about his foundation and how he has raised millions of dollars to build start-up schools for children at risk. Who would have thought that a “bad boy” of tennis would have such an incredible, positive, and lasting impact today?

Our great church has wonderful and caring people and we have many programs moving our ministry forward and helping others. A good example is our very own Children’s, Youth, and Family minister, Jay, who is running 10 miles a day for 10 days to increase awareness of mental health – what an incredible person! We are doing so many other positive things to help others.

God is good! We do have so many things to be thankful for each and every day. Please take a few moments to not look at the news, but to think about the good in your life: good things, good people, and our great church! What will go right!

Romans 15:13

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."
