The book of Proverbs has much to say about intellect and wisdom. The difference between the two? In short, intellect is knowing many things, wisdom is understanding how to use our intellect in making good decisions in our lives.
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙊𝙍𝘿 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙙𝙤𝙢, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩. - Proverbs 9:10
What a gift our intellect or intelligence can be! But just knowing things without understanding how to apply it to daily living leaves us wanting. “Fear” in this passage does not mean “be afraid of”, but rather means “respecting.” Respecting, being willing to learn wisdom from our Lord and being guided by the Holy Spirit, takes our intellectual accomplishments and helps us use them in love toward our God and toward each other.
In life it is not how much you know but how much you love and care for those around you. Remember the rich young ruler hearing from our Lord sharing the greatest commandments? “You shall love the Lord your God is all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind and…. love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37. To live successfully, learn all you can while loving and caring for yourself and others extravagantly! When wisdom attaches itself to our intellect healing takes place.
